Vermont: Green Mountain State

I planned to spend Sunday in Vermont. Just before I crossed the border, however, I stopped in Hanover, NH to take a brief tour of the Ivy League university, Darmouth College. A beautiful, but frigid morning!

Just a few minutes over the border, I found myself in Hartford, VT, where I did a short hike to the Quechee Gorge.

Following Route 4, I passed the Taftsville Bridge....

and stopped at Sugarbush Farm, where I sampled fresh Vermont cheeses and syrups.

By the time I arrived in Woodstock, VT, the day had finally begun to warm up. I stopped at the Visitor Center before hiking to the top of Mount Peg.

I then followed the Falkner Trail to the lower summit of Mount Tom. This hike consisted of a series of "switch-backs," which allowed for a more gradual incline.

After completing the two hikes, I walked around the quaint downtown village.

The small town's Middle Bridge over the Ottaquechee River was stunning.

By late afternoon, I decided that it was time to head back. It would have only taken 3.5 hours to get back to the Cape, but I forgot that driving through Boston sucks. Always. Nevertheless, a great solo adventure through 3 states in 3 days.
