Tuesday began with a run to García Lorca Park.
Then, a steep climb to San Miguel Alto.
Afterwards, an afternoon walk around the city center, ending
with a marvelous sunset in el Albycín.
That night, I met Ana for tapas in Realejo. We chatted over
a series of tasty homemade dishes at Casa de Lopez—or the "English watering
hole," as Ana calls it. I continue to admire her natural call to the arts.
I woke up early on Wednesday, in time to catch the sunrise
(only around 8:30 during the shorter Winter days). My plan was to hike in las
Alpujarras, but I had trouble navigating the new city bus system, and
consequently missed the bus to the mountains. So my new plan resulted in a
morning walk.

For lunch, authentic Argentine empanadas from an expat in my neighborhood.
Then, an afternoon siesta on the terrace.
That night, I met Javier for tapas in a bar just past el Mercado de San Augustine. Eventually, we made our way to the end of Calle Navas—a popular gathering spot among locals that lies just past the tourist part of the street. There I tried the brilliant red wines of La Tana, a bar featured on the television program of world traveler, Anthony Bourdain.
