Ok fine, I caved. Originally, I told myself that I would not start another blog this year because they are far too time-consuming to maintain. From my experience writing a blog during my Spanish journey, I quickly learned that the writer in me gets carried away once I start. Nevertheless, a blog is the best option for me to share my current adventures with family and friends--the English-speaking ones at least--and to keep them updated on my life.

So, where have I been and where am I going? For those who do not know, my final year of pharmacy school consists of seven five-week practical rotations at various pharmacies of my choosing (more or less). My first rotation in May was at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh, which is where I also completed my internship. During this experience, I worked closely with heart transplant patients and candidates in both the hospital and clinic settings. My pharmacist preceptor served as a strong role model for me, and I learned a great deal in a short amount of time.

After a side trip to Argentina, I completed my second rotation in July at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital in Pittsburgh--a general hospital rotation. In August, I moved on to Adzema Prescription Pharmacy in the North Hills of Pittsburgh. The quirky, family-owned pharmacy is classically traditional, complete with a lunch counter and soda fountain! This was one of my most rewarding experiences, where I felt comfortable with the environment and employees, and when I first felt like a pharmacist instead of a student.
By the time October hit, I traveled to a South Carolina Indian Reservation, which is where I will begin my story. After that, I will periodically post about my current rotation with the Coast Guard in Cape Cod. Eventually, I will round out the year with a few Spanish and African tales. First, however, let me take a moment to reflect on my Carolina experience...
